In theory, users of Windows Phone 8.1 can switch to Windows 10 Mobile, they need to install the Upgrade Advisor application and if the update is available, they can install it. If an update is available or not is another issue, but this is not the object here. In practice, users do not really seem to know if an update is available, or how to install it. This is strange for us geeks, but we can see it on Android, many people just want a smartphone that launches their applications and are not interested in other software elements.
Anyway, it would be wise to do this update if you can because the 36 months of support for version 8.1 came to an end on June 24th. Does this mean that Microsoft will not offer any updates at all? Hard to say, maybe it will provide a minimum of security patches for a few more months. Maybe it will simplify the switch to Windows 10 Mobile for compatible devices?
Microsoft is certainly an immense international company, but it runs out of bad cotton. Many employees have been sacked and the platform is struggling to impose itself on users, unable to get a small share of the cake that Android and iOS are competing for. Fortunately, Microsoft remains popular, among other things thanks to its applications: the famous Office suite (Word, Excel & Co), Skype and others.Today, Microsoft continues to work on its operating system, but its mobile version seems to be badly barred.
